If only these days could last longer

If only these days could last longer

Actually, one way to make them last longer is to capture the memories of your children and family in the form of portraits.  These days with your children go by faster than you could ever imagine.  As the father of a three-year-old, I know.  I am so glad we have family portraits to capture the memories.  As we continue to make more memories, portraits will be a large part of that.  If you would like for me to capture memories for your family, contact me to get more information.

Busy is good.

June 23, 2010

Last week was quite a busy week for Photos By DK.  I had two big photo shoots including the one that produced the images shown above.  We had a great time working with this wonderful family.  Meeting great families like this one is just one of the many added benefits of being a portrait photographer.  It was a hot day that started off with heavy rain but we were able to make the most of it.  I am in the process of going over the images captured from the day so I can post the final selections soon.

Now is the perfect time to capture those family memories in the permanent form of a photograph.  Contact me today at contact@photosbydk.com to get more information or to book your session.  More samples of my work can be seen on my website at www.photosbydk.com.

No high pressure sales tactics

June 16, 2010

When I talk to people and tell them I am a photographer, I inevitably hear stories about their experiences with portrait studios.  Last night I heard about one person’s experience with high pressure sales tactics.  That is one thing you will not experience with Photos By DK.  I do not lure you in with a low price only to attempt to sell you one of everything and three different variations of the same pose so you leave spending far more than you intended in the first place.  Sure, my prices might look higher on the front end but I have talked to people who have spent far more at one of these studios and left with what I feel is much less than had they allowed me to be their photographer.

The person I talked to last night also told me about how the photographer at the studio tried to have her two-year-old daughter do several poses.  How do you expect a two-year-old to do poses?  You are lucky to have them sit quietly without crying hysterically.  This is why I am a firm believer in getting outdoors on-location and letting kids be kids.  Sure, studio portraits have their place and I hope to own and operate a studio someday.  However, with toddlers, it is best to let them do their thing and be there to capture it as it happens.  This is how the best toddler portraits are created.

If you would like more information or if you would like to book a portrait session with Photos By DK, please drop me an e-mail to contact@photosbydk.com.  As always, more samples of my work can be seen on my main website at www.photosbydk.com.

It’s all about having fun.

June 14, 2010

I try to make my photo sessions all about having fun.  And what says fun like a pair of pink Chucks?  If you are not having fun, it comes across in the photos.  We had a lot of fun on this most recent session and it is really showing in the photos as I process them.  Sure, I take my craft very seriously but none of it matters if you are not having fun during your photo session.

KW Photo Session

June 13, 2010

This past Friday, I conducted a photo session with KW.  The image above is from that session.  We had lots of fun and were able to somehow beat the heat that has descended upon Nashville the past few days.  We also braved some of the crowd from the CMA Music Fest that has brought lots of country music fans to our city.  We had a lot of fun making KW the star of the day.  I will be sharing more images from this session in the coming days so stay tuned.

If you would like more information or if you would like to book your own portrait session with Photos By DK, send me an e-mail to contact@photosbydk.com.  You may also visit my website at www.photosbydk.com to see more samples of my work.

Focus On Recovery Photography Auction – Nashville, TN

May 18, 2010

The Society of Nashville’s Artistic Photographers (SNAP) is conducting an auction of artistic photography pieces to benefit victims of the recent flooding in Nashville, Tennessee.  I am pleased to be able to participate in this event by donating a matted artistic photographic print of my work for the auction.  Please see the information below taken from the official press release or see more information here at the SNAP website (www.snapnashville.org).

The Society of Nashville Artistic Photographers (SNAP) has organized an
auction of highly collectable photographs to benefit victims of the recent catastrophic flood. The event,
named Focus on Recovery, will take place on June 4, 2010 from 6 p.m. –9 p.m., at 201 East 17th St. (at
Fatherland), in East Nashville, once the site of the Plowhaus Gallery. There will be a preview party on June
3 from 7-9pm. All proceeds will go to Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization
with over 200 affiliates of local architects and contractors who rebuild homes for the disabled, the aging
and homeowners affected by natural disasters.

As Nashville begins to understand the breath of the devastation, local groups are emerging with creative
ways to provide assistance to the many residents affected by the floodwaters. And SNAP is no exception.
SNAP president, Eric Denton, has put out the call to its roster of two hundred members and many other
noted photographers.
